Defending Acquired Rights Initiative

A Responsible Legal Response at a Critical Juncture

Overview

The pathways to permanent residence and family reunification for refugees are entering a highly sensitive and critical phase. Upcoming policy and legislative changes are increasingly likely, raising serious legal concerns—particularly where such changes may affect families who have lived lawfully for years, as well as children whose lives and futures are firmly rooted in legal stability.

Any reform or reinterpretation of these pathways that undermines acquired rights, harms family unity, or disproportionately impacts children risks violating fundamental legal principles, including proportionality, fairness, and legal certainty.

Launching the Legal Initiative

In response to these concerns, Fahd Al-Meshhri and the team at J.Key Advisory have taken a clear and principled legal stance.

We are prepared to engage in legal challenge should any changes be applied in a manner that:
• Undermines acquired or settled rights
• Disrupts family reunification
• Disproportionately affects children
• Penalizes individuals who have resided lawfully for many years

This initiative is not reactive. It is a structured legal response grounded in statutory interpretation, case law, and long-standing principles of justice.

Independence and Legal Integrity

This initiative is entirely independent.
It is not politically motivated, not media-driven, and not funded by any external body.

Our position stems solely from a legal and humanitarian responsibility to ensure that the rule of law protects those who relied, in good faith, on existing legal frameworks to build their lives and families.

Our Commitment

We will not remain silent where laws are applied in ways that erode acquired rights.
We will be where we must be—at the forefront of legal challenge—defending:
• Acquired rights
• Family unity
• The stability and best interests of children.
